Palma Violets - An Introduction

Before you even open your mouth, NO!  NOT THE SWEETS!  Those disgusting pieces of purple matter are PARMA Violets, and they're nowhere near as cool as the band with the similar sounding name.

The band began in 2011 in Lambeth, central London.  It was formed by the two main frontmen Sam Fryer and Chilli Jesson along with keyboardist Pete Mayhew and drummer Will Doyle.  They were one of the most hyped up bands of 2012 after they had found an ever growing fan base online.  Videos of them playing in tiny pubs were uploaded onto YouTube by fans, and they were soon signed to Rough Trade Records.

Then it was pretty much downhill.  Their debut single, 'Best of Friends' was one of the catchiest and head-bangingly awesome tunes of 2012, a point proven by the track being voted as NME's Song of the Year.  Their highly anticipated album, '180' (named after their London home where they would frequently host gigs) just missed out on the top ten in the charts, peaking at No 11.

They're mainly classified as indie and garage rock, but listen closely and there are a lot of sounds weaving their way through the music.  A bit of psychadelic here and some grunge there; it all comes together to create that beautiful sound of four Londoners making music and enjoying it.

So go, grasshoppers, journey to your local HMV and find 180.  Don't worry, it'll be there.  Give the man your money and rest assured that you won't be dissapointed.
